BRC certification
What is BRC certification?
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is an important international trade association, its members include large multinational retail chains, department stores, town shops, online stores and other retailers, products involved in a very wide range.
BRC certification is the BRC Food Technical Standard developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) to assess the safety of retailers' own brand food. BRC certification has become an internationally recognized food specification, not only can be used to evaluate retailers' suppliers, but also many companies have established their own supplier evaluation system and brand product production standards on the basis of it. The BRC also publishes other global standards, such as the Consumer Product Standard and the Food Packaging Standard.
The BRC Global Standard - Consumer Goods sets out quality requirements for safe and legal consumer goods (see definition of "quality" in the glossary). These consumer goods can be proprietary brands, retailers' own brands, or brands used by other organizations. This standard is intended to improve the safety, legality and quality of products and does not cover employee safety and health, the environment and ethics. The BRC Global Standard - Consumer Goods covers products that fall within the scope of the EU General Product Word Guide (2005).
The application of this standard does not include:
Motor vehicles subject to the rules governing the use of road traffic and military construction; Fuel sold in bulk or in recycled packaging containers; Services (insurance, banking, etc.); Prescription drugs; Vitamin, mineral and herbal additives; Horticultural cultivation of plants and flowers; Live animals and pets.
The BRC/IoP Global Standard - Food Packaging Materials and Other Packaging Materials covers packaging that comes into contact with food. This standard applies to manufacturing, warehousing and distribution prior to delivery. This standard does not apply to the following activities: wholesale; Import; Distribution or storage (outside the direct control of the place of production).
Global standard
Following the success of the BRC Food Technology Standard, and encouraged by the UK National Government, UK trade groups are continuing to work together to achieve further consistency and achievement in other areas. This led to the introduction of other BRC standards. The BRC Global Food Standard consists of four standards:
BRC Global Standard - Food
BRC Global Standard - Consumer Goods
BRC Global Standard - Food Packaging
BRC Global Standard - The status of non-GMO foods remains imperative
BRC certification objectives
Improve supplier standards and consistency to avoid product errors
Eliminate multiple audits by food producers due to compliance with different standards
Better support the goals of retailers at all levels of the production supply chain
The benefits of providing concise information are uniform standards and protocols, so that assessment can be undertaken by testing certification bodies that have been certified to the European standard (ISO/IEC Guide 65).
A supplier only needs to be certified once to provide its information to all customers who accept this standard.
Extensive coverage, covering all aspects related to the safety and legality of products.
Suppliers and customers are required to work together and supervise each other. In the evaluation clause, real-time monitoring and follow-up and confirmation of corrective actions for non-compliance are required.
Testing organizations are certified according to international standards, and when products are supplied by other countries, the certification provided by these testing organizations can be widely accepted.
What are the benefits of BRC certification?
1. Most large retailers in the UK and high-end food production companies in the world only choose companies certified by BRC global standards as suppliers. Most retailers will require manufacturers to provide BRC certification and meet the legal and quality requirements of their retail customers. BRC certification has become an important certification to enter the international market.
2. The Act does not require foreign companies exporting to the UK and Europe to comply with BRC standards. But true to its name, Global Standards have become widely accepted supplier best standards in a variety of industries (food, non-food consumer goods and packaging materials) and are used not only for the evaluation of retailers and manufacturers of branded products, but also for the evaluation of branded products.
3. Many European and global retailers (such as Australia) also require BRC certificates as a condition when selecting suppliers.
4. Some international brand owners implement BRC certification in their manufacturing plants around the world.
5. One of the benefits of implementing the standard is that it meets the legal requirements of "reasonable measures", so its certification is not a barrier to trade, but a means of meeting the legal requirements.
BRC certified products
BRCCertified products have five aspects:
Food (Food)
Consumer Products
Food Packaging material
Storage and Distribution
Non-gm Foods (Non GM Foods)
