IATF16949 certification

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in March 2002 published an industry-specific quality system requirements, its full name is "Quality management system - the automotive industry production parts related service parts of the organization to implement the special requirements of ISO9001";, the English name is IATF16949. For the corresponding ISO9001:2015 quality management system, the standard was updated to IATF16949:2016 in 2016.

What are the requirements for IATF16949 certification

IATF16949 certification registration is only applicable to automotive Oems and their direct component manufacturers. These manufacturers must be directly related to the production of automobiles, have the ability to process and manufacture, and through the realization of this ability to add value to the product. Companies that are required to obtain ISO/ TS16949:2009 certification must have at least 12 consecutive months of production and quality management records, including complete records of internal reviews and management reviews.

For a newly established processing facility that does not have a 12-month record, the certification company may also issue a "Certificate of conformity" issued by NQA after reviewing compliance with the requirements of the confirmed quality system specification. When 12 months of records have been obtained, the certification audit registration is carried out. If the certified organization cannot continue to maintain the normal operation of the quality system and the consistency of product quality, it will have the risk of revocation of the certificate.

Scope of application

This technical specification, in conjunction with ISO9001:2016, describes the quality system requirements for the design/development, production, installation and service of automotive related products. IATF16949 (formerly ISO/TS16949) applies to suppliers and subcontractors "on-site" who provide production and service parts for:

(1) Components or materials.

(2) Heat treatment parts, painting, plating, or other final processing services.

(3) Other products specified by customers.

Note: "remote locations" such as design centers and corporate headquarters are also part of the site audit. Again, they cannot be certified separately in the new standard. ISO/TS16949 also applies to the entire automotive supply chain. The scope of ISO/TS16949 has not changed much relative to QS-9000, except to include specific products defined by the customer (e.g., semiconductors, tool-mount equipment manufacturing, etc.) and direct suppliers to the automotive industry (Tier 1).

Requirements for IATF16949 certification

First, 16949 is based on the ISO9000 2000 version
