What is Macy's Inspection?

What is a Macy's Factory Inspection?

Macy's is also called MACY, the English full name: Masterof Accountancy, Chinese name is "American high-end department store", its headquarters is in the United States, Macy's when purchasing products in China also requires its suppliers to comply with their "Supply Rules" for third-party factory audit, after the business is basically completed, It is mainly to carry out anti-terrorism and social responsibility inspection of the factory. In 2005, Macy began to conduct a comprehensive and systematic anti-terrorism inspection of the factory, and the anti-terrorism inspection mainly includes CTPAT anti-terrorism inspection and GSV anti-terrorism inspection.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Massey factory inspection?

Benefit: enterprises through the Macy's factory inspection, you can receive large orders issued by Macy's department store, establish a management system that meets international requirements, and increase the ability to compete with well-known brands; Promote foreign consumers to establish positive feelings for the products produced by the company, stabilize cooperation with buyers, expand new markets, and lay a solid foundation for the long-term development of Macy's department Store.

Disadvantages: If the enterprise does not pass the Macy's factory inspection, it will not receive orders from Macy's Department store, Macy's department store will only give the supplier three factory inspection cooperation opportunities, the factory inspection does not pass, the image of the enterprise will be greatly reduced, greatly reducing the image of customers on the product.

Macy's audit is divided into anti-terrorism and social responsibility audit, each with 200 questions. Generally, Macy's factory inspection has three opportunities, and the problem points passed once do not need to be re-inspected the second time, and the last time only looks at the problems existing in the previous time. Therefore, as long as the factory asks the factory inspection consultant for guidance, it is easy to pass the factory inspection and get orders.

Massey inspection requirements for suppliers:

Anti-terrorism factory inspection

Massey is earlier to join the United States Department of Homeland Security Customs Border Protection (CBP) initiative to establish a voluntary program C-TPAT (Customs - Commerce anti-terrorist Alliance), so in addition to accepting social responsibility factory inspection, the factory must also accept C-TPAT inspection, that is, Massey anti-terrorism inspection, in order to facilitate the smooth clearance of goods sold to the United States. Massey Anti-terrorism inspections are conducted in accordance with standard C-TPAT procedures and are rigorous. There are many factories that have not passed because the security guard did not ask to see the ID card when the auditor entered the factory and must be reviewed.

Social responsibility factory inspection

In the early 1990s, Macy's decided to become a pioneer in the field of supply chain social responsibility audit, the United States CSCC notary (now STR) to help it audit the factory on the supply chain, control supply chain moral hazard, which is now called social responsibility audit factory. There are 179 question points in seven sections. Each problem point has a corresponding score, which is divided into three levels: R-N-V. With the exception of minor violations, the problem points in both N-V categories must be improved and reviewed by an auditor before they pass a Massey inspection. The results of the Massey inspection are measured in terms of both overall condition and critical issues, and only minor violations are Acceptable (Massey inspection passes), but the factory will not be evaluated more than three times. In other words, if a factory is not Acceptable for three consecutive evaluations, Massey will terminate its cooperation with the factory.

With a century-old history, Massey has strict requirements for suppliers and has developed the most comprehensive factory evaluation criteria. This standard involves nearly 200 questions in five areas, including basic factory information, employment policies, remuneration and working hours, health and safety.

Massey has historically placed great emphasis on child and forced labor issues in its employment policies, two issues that are of concern to other companies as well. In addition, there is also a high level of attention to employee awareness (mainly understanding of labor laws and personnel policies).

In terms of remuneration and working hours, Massey has certain requirements for the welfare of employees in the factory. For example, whether statutory benefits are provided to employees, and the amount of salary after deduction for employees are required to be higher than the minimum wage standard. At the same time, as a chain department store, the category of goods will inevitably include clothing, so Macy's requires the factory to establish a written policy on breaking needles during the production process. In terms of the broken needle policy, Massey requires the factory to establish a written policy, and the product is required to pass the broken needle scan at the time of completion and shipment.

These are just a few of the high profile issues in Massey's evaluation criteria, as well as the requirement of employees' working conditions to provide toilets according to gender and fire protection requirements for exit details (such as the width of exit requirements) can not be ignored when Massey plant evaluation.

Notes for Massey factory inspection:

1. Child Labor

Persons younger than 15 years of age may not be employed (except for 14 years of age as the legal age of employment under local law) and persons younger than 15 years of age under the law of the producing country for compulsory education.

2. Forced labor

No form of forced Labour shall be employed, whether as prisoners, compulsory indentured Labour, bonded Labour or any other forced Labour.

3. Harassment or abuse

The personality and dignity of employees must be respected. Never engage in any physical, verbal, behavioural or mental harassment or abuse of employees.

4. Anti-discrimination

The employment and remuneration of employees shall be determined on the basis of their ability and performance, regardless of their gender, race, religion or cultural beliefs.

5. Health and safety

Employers must provide a safe and healthy working environment to prevent any avoidable accidents and injuries at work.

6. Working hours

Under normal working hours, suppliers shall not require employees to work more than 60 hours per week. During peak production periods, employees may not work more than 72 hours in a six-day period, or a maximum of 14 hours in a single day. Employers must not require employees to take work home or complete work outside the boundaries of the production site, and must allow employees one full day off each week.

7. Work overtime

We understand that in the production process, employees need to work overtime is inevitable. Therefore, in addition to being paid for normal working hours, employees must also be paid for overtime hours. Overtime compensation for employees shall be based on local labor regulations or, if not specified in local regulations, on industry standards. Overtime pay shall not be less than the normal hourly rate. Factories should limit overtime hours to ensure efficient and humane working conditions.

8. Salary and benefits

Employers should clearly understand that wages are the basic needs of employees to maintain their livelihood. The employer must pay the employee the agreed wage for the work performed, and the wage must not be less than the minimum wage prescribed by local law or the average wage for equivalent work (whichever is higher), and the employer must provide the employee with the benefits prescribed by the local government.

9. Freedom of association and collective bargaining

Suppliers shall respect the rights and freedoms of employees who may choose to join or not to join a body legally provided that such body is a legal body in the country in which the goods are produced. The Supplier shall not interfere with, obstruct or stop any lawful act of the employee in connection with it.

10. Subcontractors

Suppliers must disclose to Macy's in advance all subcontractors involved in the production of their products prior to production. Such subcontractors and their facilities must be pre-approved by Macy's. It is the supplier's absolute responsibility to ensure that its subcontractors understand and comply with all Macy's supplier codes of conduct.

11. Obey the law

All standards set out in this Code of Conduct are in compliance with applicable local laws. All suppliers must also comply fully with the laws of the country in which they are manufactured. If, in Supplier's judgment, any of the standards set forth in this Code of Conduct violate applicable local laws, Supplier shall immediately notify Macy's Inc. in writing.

12. Protect the environment

Macy's is committed to working with suppliers that support the environment through waste reduction and recycling. Macy's encourages its suppliers to minimize the use of excess packaging materials and to use non-toxic and environmentally friendly materials. Macy's company policy specifically prohibits the use of ozone-depleting substances and requires compliance with the U.S. Endangered Species Act of 1973. Suppliers are responsible for continuous compliance with such laws, including all amendments thereto. Macy's is not required to give further notice of such amendments.

Many factories want to receive foreign orders, but the situation of the factory itself does not meet the requirements of foreign customers to suppliers, therefore, if you directly apply for factory inspection, the chance of passing is very small, and will affect the order. Therefore, after receiving the customer's factory inspection requirements, most factories will choose a professional factory inspection agency for guidance, according to the standard requirements of the audit agency, to help the factory improve the situation, in order to meet the customer's factory inspection requirements, and successfully pass the factory inspection.
